The Dangers of Dengue

The good thing is the reported death cases due to dengue fever is only 1% but the symptoms and recovery can last for several weeks and it could affect your health conditions like a sudden drop of your blood level. There is also no particular medicine or antibiotic for patients with dengue fever. Often the cure is by having enough rest and increase in water intake to wash away the virus.

How It Attacks

The virus is initiated from the bite of a mosquito carrying a dengue virus. Dengue is more common to occur during wet seasons but most mosquitoes can live and multiply in any stagnant waters. These could be plant's pots, cans, tiers with water, and other areas with waters. Recent studies also reveal that some mosquitoes carrying a dengue virus can also live even in running water. It only needs one mosquito bite to spread the virus to another person. The mosquito will spread the virus by biting an infected person and biting again a non infected person. That is how the virus will spread. There is transfer of virus from a person to person like some people commonly believe.

Once a victim is infected by a dengue virus, the symptoms will not be visible for how many days. Some experienced the symptoms after 8 days or even 15 days, it varies but for sure the symptoms will come but not immediately. The common symptoms include chills, low back pain, pain in the eyes when it moves, and headache. A victim of this dengue virus can experience also a sudden low blood level, pain in the legs, reddened eyes, high temperature up to 40 C and the swollen glands in the neck are visible too.

Normally the fever can last until 2 to 4 days and a patient may experience a day of feeling well. After a normally feeling for about a day, a rise in body temperature will occur again. It is noticeably that the palms the bottoms of the foot are both red and swollen.
